Ponte 16 Supports the Reconstruction of Sichuan

Macau, 8 May 2009 – Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16, the fiver-star luxury hotel located at Ponte 16 which is the flagship joint venture of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. and Macau Success Limited, has been honoured as the designated hotel of the “Super Model Pageant 2009” where all contestants stayed during the event. Ponte 16 was also the sponsor of a cheque presentation dinner on 7 May and a charity auction on 8 May, both in support of the reconstruction of Sichuan.

The cheque presentation dinner was held on 7 May at Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16 and was attended by distinguished guests, including representative from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in The Macao Special Administrative Region, representative from China Ethnic Minority Foundation, top management of Ponte 16 and all the final contestants. The dinner began with an opening address by Mr. Hoffman Ma, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Pier 16 – Resort Hotel Management Limited, followed by a solemn cheque presentation ceremony.

In the afternoon on 8 May, the charity auction in support of the reconstruction of Sichuan was held at Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16. A number of calligraphies and art pieces were auctioned, and all proceeds will be donated to the department responsible for Sichuan’s rebuilding work. Mr. Hoffman Ma has bid the collector’s edition of Puer tea from Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Foundation (孫中山紀念會) in the name of Success Universe Group. The Puer tea will be numbered as “268” and be displayed at Ponte 16 for all visitors to see.

Commenting on Ponte 16’s sponsorship for the event, Mr. Hoffman Ma said, “We are very honoured that Ponte 16 was appointed as the official hotel of the pageant, as well as the venue for the charity events. Soon after Sichuan was struck by the devastating earthquake on 12 May last year, we responded immediately by encouraging all our staff to donate generously to support the relief work. Ponte 16’s sponsorships for the charity dinner and auction has enabled us to further fulfill our responsibilities as a corporate citizen.”

Since its opening in February 2008, Ponte 16 has been the venue of a number of cultural and epicurean events, making it a landmark of travel and culture. Meanwhile, Ponte 16 is committed to giving back to the community and China. Following the fund-raising fair for Sichuan’s rebuilding work in August last year, Ponte 16 had encouraged and joined in with the participating merchants of this year’s “Ponte 16 Inner Harbour Food Festival”, which was held during the May Golden Week, to help raise funds for the reconstruction of Sichuan.
