Ponte 16 Grand Opening Ceremony

(Macau SAR, 1st February 2008) Ponte 16’s Grand Opening Ceremony held on 1st February 2008 attracted a huge crowd of local residents and tourists. The HK$3.2 billion development will include a 5-star hotel, luxurious casino and a waterfront Entertainment and Recreation Complex when fully completed.

The Grand Opening Ceremony started from 6:00pm with a Welcome Cocktail. At 7:00pm Chief Executive of Macau SAR, Mr. Edmund Ho; Deputy Director of The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Madam Gao Yan; Deputy Commissioner of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The People’s Republic of China in the Macau SAR Mr. Huang Songfu; Secretary of Economy and Finanace of the Macau SAR, Mr. Francis Tam; as well as Managing Director of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A., Dr. Stanley Ho; Director of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. and Chairman of Pier 16 – Resort Hotel Management Ltd, Dr. Ambrose So; Executive Director and Chairman of Macau Success Limited and Chief Executive Office of Pier 16 – Resort Hotel Management Ltd, Mr. Sonny Yeung; and Founder and Chairman of Maruhan Corporation, Dr. Han Chang-Woo, conducted the launch ceremony on a specially constructed Officiating Ship.

The launch ceremony was quickly followed by a spectacular pyrotechnics performance. The highlight of the night was a refreshing and technically challenging lion dance featuring 16 lions choreographed by the “Matrix” technical direction team. Two of the lions climbed up the 18-storey facade to “pluck the greens”. The breathtaking stunt left the audience totally enamored. The Grand Opening Ceremony was attended by Hong Kong/Macau Government Official and business leaders, well-known artists, and the who’s who of society.

Dr. Stanley Ho, Managing Director of SJM, said, “As the only gaming concessionaire rooted in Macau, SJM is proud to offer Macau this new development, Ponte 16, which links the past with the present and the future.  The Ponte 16 Resort Development is the only resort complex in the Inner Harbour, which has such a charming waterfront location near to the historic centre of Macau, looking on one side, across the narrow waterway to the China Mainland and, on the other, down the main avenida to the city centre.  It is in this old district of Macau, full of history and the fond memories of residents that we are fulfilling our responsibilities to society, in co-ordination with the Macau SAR government, in the revitalization and creative development of this old urban district of Macau.”

Chief Executive Officer of Pier 16 – Resort Hotel Management Limited, Mr. Sonny Yeung believes Macau’s travel industry and economy will continue to grow in 2008. Ponte 16 will strive for excellence and catalyze the development of the travel industry. Mr. Yeung also said that based on Ponte 16’s unique characteristics and high level of customer service, Ponte 16 will stand out in the Macau gaming industry.

 

After the Grand Opening Ceremony, the celebration moves indoors to a party featuring renowned Taiwanese R&B singer David Tao, and popular Hong Kong singers Stephy and Teresa. Guests were also treated to a fashion show featuring Hong Kong designer Arthur Lam’s latest evening wear collection and jewelry sponsored by Chow Tai Fook to the tune of 30 Million Hong Kong Dollars. Beautiful people, beautiful jewelry, beautiful clothes bring ultimate glamour to Ponte 16.?

Ponte 16 integrated casino-entertainment resort is built over 2.3 hectares is ideally located in the culturally rich Inner Harbor of Macau. At its completion, the resort consists of a five-star hotel, a casino and an upcoming entertainment and retail complex. The current phase opens with two levels of casino area offering 105 gaming tables and 300 slot machines.
